Details from their website: PechaKucha Night Oakland is a seasonal event for sharing ideas and building community. Each city around the world (over 700 and counting), has a group of producers that convene these fun gatherings over food, drinks, and music with a particular flair – cultural worker/entrepreneurs, Ashara Ekundayo, Jeff Perlstein and Mike Nicholls are no expection to this. Plus, it’s being housed in the newest & sexiest start-up in the Town, Impact Hub Oakland!
What Happens at PKN_Oak?
Presenters are allotted 20 PowerPoint slides and 20 seconds of narration per slide. Put simply, it’s 6 minutes and 40 seconds of performance art. We’re pulling together a dynamic mix of presenters from all domains of creative activity – activists, architects, artists, chefs, curators, designers, dreamers, entrepreneurs, fabricators, fashionistas, historians, makers, rabblerousers, scientists, ETC! It’s Thinking + Drinking Town Bizniss style!
Theme – “Place/Making/Place”
Many PKN around the world have themed events – with all of the dramatic changes taking place in The Bay due to development and gentrification, we’re focusing our Summer edition of PKN_Oak on the timely topic of “Place/Making/Place.” 10 presenters will share their interpretation of place, space and identity as it relates to making and maintaining a place whether that be a neighborhood, a relationship, a business or whatever.
