After being a part of the Popuphood incubation program for two years, jewelry boutique Crown Nine is graduating from the ranks and moving into a new, fabulous space! Luckily, they're not going far… the shop will be relocated just down the block on 9th Street behind District in the Carriage House.
The owner, Kate Ellen, is behind Kate Ellen Metals, and this new opportunity allows for studio space to integrate her workspace and keep hosting hands-on workshops. The new spot allows her to stay a part of Old Oakland neighborhood and continue to build our community.
A big thank you to Kate for being one of our first Popuphood shops! Not only did she launch a truly inspired shop and bring the work of independent artists like Giovanna Torrico and Voce Keen to Old Oakland, she garnered wonderful press and won some awards as well, such as "Most Covetable Gems" in the East Bay Express' "Best Of" issue.
We love that she:
* Holds jewelry design classes and workshops, connecting clients and neighbors to the craft of jewelry making as well as the stories and techniques behind the makers.
* Creates custom ceremonial jewelry pieces for couples. She really connects to peoples' love stories and manifests some heirloom-worthy pieces, part of the reason she wanted to launch her flagship shop was to meet her customers and be a part of the community.
* Curates art shows of local superstars and many friends of ours as part of expanding her community, showcasing artists for Oakland's First Friday, and living a creative life.
Best of luck! Read more
