Buying local helps keep more cash in the community. However, some 30% of that cash still leaks out of the local community, draining wealth away from Bay Area residents and businesses. With Bay Bucks, 100% of the money spent re-circulates in the local community, creating real wealth and opportunities.
As part of the New Economy 2.0 movement Bay Bucks is a business-to-business barter exchange. Members can create and issue appropriate amount of Bay Bucks to meet their business expenses by assisting members to trade things they have in excess for things they need - turning their unsold into an asset. And we are all about leveraging unused assets. Local businesses bartering with each other helps everyone save cash, increase profit margins, share resources and reduce waste - all while building a stronger local economy.
Here is how it works:
Most businesses have some unused inventory or excess capacity. With Bay Bucks, businesses can deposit their own extra goods and services into the Exchange and withdraw the services or goods of any other participating businesses from the Exchange. Instead of using cash, all transactions on the Exchange are done in Bay Bucks, a digital currency.
You earn Bay Bucks every time a business purchases your goods or services on the Exchange, and you can spend the Bay Bucks you earn when you want to purchase anything in the Bay Bucks marketplace. Bay Bucks are equivalent to the US dollar, so you earn the same amount of Bay Bucks you would earn if you were selling your goods and services for cash at full retail price.

We can't wait to hear from you about how you are using this service! We hope to see you at The Living the New Economy Conference!
